Jets owner Woody Johnson rips NFL Network for report of ‘heated argument’ with Robert Saleh

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is not happy with the NFL Network after its report of the “heated argument” between him and coach Robert Saleh. On Thursday, Johnson went to X to call out the network for its “false” reporting of the incident during the NFL owners’ meetings.

“All this nonsense about a heated argument between Coach Saleh and me at the League Meeting is absolutely false,” Johnson wrote. “It is yet another irresponsible report from NFL Network.  Please disregard.”

The report came from NFL Network’s Colleen Wolfe who talked about the incident on Around the NFL. “At the owner’s meetings, there was a very heated conversation between Woody and Robert Saleh,” Wolfe said, “to the point where it was a little awkward.”

Wolfe did not know why the two were arguing, but it had fans talking since the team finished 7-10 last year and in 2022. The good news is the Jets will have a healthy Aaron Rodgers when the 2024 season kicks off, giving them a chance to play meaningful games in December.

“You need a backup quarterback,” he said, per ESPN. “We didn’t have one last year.”

Woody Johnson wants more from the Jets

Zach Wilson took over for Rodgers and finished the year with a 77.2 passer rating in 12 games. Rodgers should get the Jets on track to a playoff berth, which is needed for Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

“The discussions I’ve had in the last couple of months, they’ve seen me about as mad as I can be with what was going on, with the offense particularly,” Johnson said. “We have all this talent, and we have to deploy talent properly. So I think they all got the message. This is it. This is the time to go. We’ve got to produce this year.”

During the owners’ meetings, Saleh talked about making changes to his approach in 2024. There’s a lot of things that I could do differently. I’m not going to talk about them here,” he said, per the Jets’ official website. “With regard to the different things we do schematically, we’ve got a lot of confidence in that. The messaging, practice habits, things we do in regard to our schedule, a lot of different things, we’re going to do differently this year, though.”
